Hi guys, today I’m sharing my picks for the Best Makeup releases of 2019. I feel like 2019 wasn’t the best year ever for makeup releases, but there were a few stand outs that I loved!
Not saying I didn’t buy a crap tonne of makeup last year, because I did haha, but not everything I bought was actually released in 2019! There weren’t many eyeshadow palettes that piqued my interest as so many of them had pops of blue. I have green eyes and fair skin and I just don’t think blue looks good on me.
However, last year was the year of foundation for me. I went from a couple to almost 30 foundations. Again, they weren’t all released last year, but lots were… And that made me want to go back and try loads of other ones!
Anyway, let’s get into my Best Makeup Releases of 2019!
DISCLAIMER: JOHN LEWIS LINKS ARE AFFILIATE, ALL OTHERS ARE NOT. ALL PRODUCTS PURCHASED BY ME
SHISEIDO SYNCHRO SKIN SELF-REFRESHING FOUNDATION (£39 from John Lewis) AND CONCEALER (£29 from John Lewis)
This was the first thing from Shiseido I ever tried and it automatically went into contention for my Best Makeup releases of 2019. I tried the foundation first and fell head over heels. It is SO natural on the skin, you cannot see it on your face and it feels like nothing. The finish is stunning, it transforms my dull skin into healthy, glowing skin. The staying power is great too. I did a full review of this foundation and a wear test, so check that out here.
The concealer was a later addition to my collection, but it came in and trounced every other concealer I own for under my eyes. It covers my dark circles so well, yet somehow managed to stay creaseless all day. It does’t go patchy or oxidise either. I had given into the fact that no matter what I did, my under eye concealer was going to crease, but this one really doesn’t! I’m love struck, sorry husband!!
NARS LOST IN LUSTER FACE PALETTE – £46 from Nars
This palette is so good! It’s my go to because it’s so wearable ad the shades are light enough for my pale ass!! You have everything you need here to create gorgeous, daytime looks. I don’t usually buy that many face palettes as they’re usually too dark for me, or half the palette it and if I’m spending almost £50 on a face palette, I want to be able to use every shade. With this, I can and I adore it!
The eyeshadows are smooth and blendable and the blush is the perfect peachy shade. It doesn’t pull too orange on me which is something I struggle with, with peach blushes. The highlighter might be boring and champagne coloured, but I love the fact that I don’t have to think much with this palette, I can rely on it to create great looks without me having to try and come up with a colour scheme myself.
FENTY PRO FILT’R HYDRATING PRIMER – £24 from Boots
This was the first Fenty product I tried and it became a Holy Grail within weeks. It did get pipped to the best primer of the year by another one, (see my favourite makeup of 2019 here) but it’s fantastic. I’ve used over half of mine and I will be purchasing it again.
Every foundation I’ve put on top of this just looks beautiful and it really does hydrate the skin. I have plenty of other primers and sometimes I put my foundation on and I notice dry patches I never even knew I had. With this, I never notice dry patches even if I do have a few. It’s brilliant! I did a full review on it, which can be found here.
MAC BOOM BOOM BLOOM EYESHADOW PALETTE
I know you can’t buy this anymore as it was limited edition, but I still wanted to mention it as it was one of my favourite eyeshadow palettes of the year. It ‘s so beautiful and wearable. The MAC Boom Boom Bloom collection was one of the best in the last few years for me, I was so excited for it!
I also loved the lipstick from the Electric Wonder collection, but again you can’t buy it anymore, such a bummer!
HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING GHOST PALETTE – £75 from Selfridges
This palette has my whole heart haha! I love it, it’s the first time I’ve bought one of the Hourglass holiday palettes and I’ve used it so much. It has two new blush shades and if you’ve been around here long, you’ll know the Hourglass blush formula is one of my absolute favourites! This palette does not disappoint, so if you want it, get it before it’s gone!
MAC LOVE ME LIPSTICK – £19 from John Lewis
Boy was I excited for these lipsticks and they didn’t disappoint. They are stunning! So creamy, pigmented and they last pretty well for a bullet lipstick. I have three shades now and I really hope they bring out more shades as I’ll be first in line to buy them!
The packaging is gorgeous as well. Normally MAC don’t do fancy packaging for permanent collections, but I’m glad they did as they’re beautiful. Daddy’s Girl has become a firm favourite for me and I wear it all the time. It’s a pinky nude that goes with everything and it’s got to be in my top 5 lipsticks ever.
HOURGLASS ARCH BROW MICRO SCULPTING EYEBROW PENCIL – £26 from John Lewis
I know I mention this product all the time, but it’s honestly changed my life! And changed my eyebrow game, it’s AMAZING. I recently went traipsing round the shops to try and find a dupe for this, but nothing was anywhere close. I couldn’t find anything that was the same colour and most of the drugstore pencils I tried were dry and scratchy.
Soft Brunette really is my perfect brow shade and this pencil is perfect. It’s not too hard and not too soft, so there’s no risk of sharpie brows! You can get right in there and draw in fine hairs with this and it lasts all day. I’ve just repurchased this and can’t see myself ever being without it!
So, that wraps up my Best Makeup Releases of 2019, what releases did you guys love?
