Hiya everyone, today I am sharing some beauty products I regret buying. Well… regret is a big word. Maybe just that I’m disappointed in and wanted to love? I don’t hate any of these products, I just wish they worked better for me.
In a perfect world we’d love every product we buy, right? But sometimes you have so much hope and want for something and then you feel so let down when it’s not as amazing as you expected. So let’s delve into a few beauty products that didn’t work out for me!
HUDA BEAUTY ROSE GOLD REMASTERED PALETTE – £56 FROM Cult Beauty
Oh Huda. Aside from all the drama this palette created when it was announced, I never bought the first Rose Gold palette so when I saw the remastered version I actually wanted to try it.
This palette is beautiful to look at. But if you’re just looking at your palettes then there’s an issue. This was expensive! And all I’ve done is swatch it and try to do a couple of looks which were a disaster and I had to bring out other palettes to save the look.
I’m so underwhelmed by it. The “metal fondant” shades are weird. They swatch well, but they look bizarre on my eyelids and are hard to use/blend. I don’t have particularly wrinkly eyelids or so I thought. I also saw lots of people commenting on how these shades are all sunken and mine are too. So are we paying for mostly air? It’s a shame as I love the little obsessions palettes. I say save your money and get one of those instead!
TOO FACED SWEET PEACH PALETTE – £39 FROM Debenhams
Can you remember the hype around this palette?! It was insane. It was like the second coming of Christ. I missed out on it the first time as I saw a couple of reviews which weren’t blow your socks off. However, after it sold out in 0.5 seconds I decided I actually would quite like to try it for myself.
Luckily they brought this palette back and made it permanent. I got it for my birthday and it is beautiful. But the shades are lacklustre. Some of them dust away to nothing. The mattes are pretty dry and the shimmers are OK, nothing mind blowing.
There are a few shades which are pretty good, but overall not Too Faced’s best work. This past Christmas they released the Tickled Peach Palette and that is beautiful. I actually think the colour scheme is better and the shades are smooth, blendable and it’s super easy to create a look.
TARTE SHAPE TAPE CONTOUR CONCEALER – £23 FROM Tarte Cosmetics
Please don’t hate me. I know this is a cult product for so many people… it just does not work for me and boy have I tried.
I can’t get this to work anywhere. Spots, under eyes, eyeshadow primer. It dries out wherever it is on my face and then oxidises into a dotty mess.
I’ve tried different methods of application , I always make sure I’ve moisturised, I’ve tried setting and not setting. It shouldn’t be that hard to make a concealer work! I tried this so many times and it failed every time.
The Nars Creamy Concealer, IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye and Huda Beauty Overachiever are way better on my skin.
BENEFIT THEY’RE REAL MASCARA – £22 FROM Debenhams
I love the volume this gives and it does make your lashes look amazing. But it smudges SO BADLY on me.
I even tried adding a clear water proof layer on top and I still end up looking like a panda. I have long lashes, so I end up with smudges under my eyebrows.
Oh and it flakes all under my eyes too. I really wanted to love this product, but definitely ended up disappointed. I use the IT Cosmetics Superhero or the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes and they work great. Without the clear top coat.
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS CLEAR BROW GEL – £23 FROM Feel Unique
This product isn’t bad at all. In fact I’ve used it all up pretty much. It’s just I feel disappointed in it because everyone said that it was the best brow gel ever and didn’t give you crispy brows.
Well folks, I definitely have crispy brows when I use this. I’ve used it all and gone with the crispy brows, but I won’t re purchase it. The Hourglass one is better and I’ll probably give the MAC one a go at some point. I’ve also ordered the Etude House one from Yes Style so I’ll let you know how I like that one.
RCMA NO COLOUR POWDER – £11.95 FROM Beauty Bay
Again, I don’t hate this product, I’m just underwhelmed by it considering the amount of hype it got. At one stage it felt like every single person I watched on You Tube had it and raved about it. It was almost impossible to find in the UK and when you could find it, it would sell out super fast.
I was so happy when I finally managed to get my hands on it! Now this product is not bad, I just don’t think it’s anything special. I’m super pale and this can be stark white on me if you accidentally put too much on.
You have to have a very light hand and even when you do, I don’t feel like my makeup lasts that long with it. The Hourglass powder? My makeup is perfect all day. It’s more expensive, but to me it’s worth it for how my makeup looks.
Now onto a couple of products that I’ve given away as they were NOT good!
NARS SOFT MATTE CONCEALER – £24 FROM Cult Beauty
I saw this and thought “not for me” as it said matte and I thought it would be too drying. Everyone said nooooo it’s not dry, it’s super creamy and skin like and looks amazing. I thought I’d try it as I thought it would last longer than the tubes of creamy concealer, so I might save some money.
No.
This is dry. It clings to flakes I didn’t even know existed. It looks cakey within an hour and my spots end up looking as dry as a desert.
I think I tried it once under my eyes and I looked about 50 years old. Not for me, I gave it away!
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS MATTE LIPSTICK – £18 FROM Cult Beauty
I was so excited when these came out. ABH said they were matte, but super creamy and it would revolutionise matte lipsticks. I sat by my computer waiting for these to release and within 2 minutes of that time, I had ordered 3 colours.
These are the driest lipsticks I’ve ever used. They drag your lips half way across your face and show every single line on your lips. I looked like I’d been a heavy smoker all my life. Nope. Kept them a couple of years, never used them, put them in the bin. I hate waste and I hate throwing things out, but these were the biggest makeup regret I have!
There we have it! A few products I’ve been underwhelmed by! What beauty products have you tried and not liked? Let me know in the comments!
