Hiya everyone, happy Thursday! It’s time for another Do You Need It post with the new MAC Tempting Fate collection! I love a new MAC collection. Obviously they don’t all tempt me, but there are some where I’m like “I HAVE TO HAVE IT” and the MAC Tempting Fate Collection has been one of those for me.
You may think this is giving my opinion away on the do you need it side of things. However, I bought two items from this collection. So we’ll still be going over all the other parts of the collection to see if you need the whole collection or not.
The packaging is different than a lot of the collections they’ve been releasing recently. Also the eyeshadow palette is divine! I did go back and forth over whether to buy it, but I’m glad I did because it is beautiful.
I picked up one of the lipsticks too, a pinky nude, anyone surprised? No, thought not!
Right, let’s go over the whole MAC Tempting Fate Collection and see what they have for us!

This is a pretty niche collection, but I’m starting to prefer that. I’d rather have fewer items done well, than loads and loads of cr*p! This collection really encompasses Autumn. I love the packaging, the colours, everything is gorgeous!
As always there’s a Fix Plus in this collection, but there are no powder blushes! This is definitely different for a MAC collection! They do have the strobe face glazes which they say are gloss blushes. The shades were a bit deep for my pale skin, but would look fabulous on deeper skin.
In this collection there’s an 8 pan eyeshadow palette, 3 strobe face glazes, 3 eye kohls, 6 lipsticks, an eyeshadow brush and the fix plus.
You can currently buy the collection from MAC UK. If it becomes available elsewhere, I’ll come and add the links!
TEMPTING FATE FEAST YOUR EYES EYESHADOW PALETTE
I mean the name of this is apt; Feast Your Eyes! Isn’t she beautiful!? This palette is £35 from MAC.
The MAC website says this has “8 rich, highly pigmented pressed-powder shadows featuring decadent hues and three all new textures”. First off I love the pattern pressed into each shadow. It’s almost too pretty to use.
It’s not just the aesthetics of this palette that excite me, it’s the fact it’s not just regurgitated, repromoted eyeshadows like normal. The formulas are all new for this release. We have the “Leather Lustre”, the “Prismetallic” and the “Sparkler” shadows in this palette. I will list which shadow is which when I share swatches below.
Honestly though, this might be my favourite eyeshadow release of 2021 so far. It screams Autumn to me, it’s just beautiful!
Then there’s the packaging. It’s autumnal fruit, slightly whimsical, the colours are stunning, it has a kind of vintage feel to it as well.
Right, let’s look at some swatches:
From L-R: Feast Your Eyes, Yesterday’s Gossip, Golden Rage, Midnight Summer
From L-R: All That Jam, What a Pear, Velvet Vamp, Brocade Renegade
The formulas of each shadow are as follows:
- Feast your eyes – sparkler
- Yesterday’s gossip – leather lustre
- Golden rage – leather lustre
- Midnight summer – leather lustre
- All that jam – prismetallic
- What a pear – sparkler
- Velvet vamp – sparkler
- Brocade renegade – leather lustre
In terms of formula, I’m seriously impressed with this palette! With the sparklers I thought they would be like topper shadows. They are very sparkly, but they do have a base colour in them. They’re very smooth, not chunky or crumbly. I did notice on Velvet Vamp that as soon as you swatch, you lose the embossing on the shadow. This one does seem slightly softer and easier to sort of crush. The other sparklers are sheerer and harder pressed.
The prismetallic is a foiled looking formula. Incredibly smooth, soft and swatches beautifully. There aren’t any large chunks of glitter, I wish there was more than one of these shades in the palette and it’s a wonderful formula. It gives you that wet look.
Finally, let’s talk about the leather lustre. I didn’t know what to expect with these, but as I swiped my finger over the first one… WOW. It feels like a cream, but also a powder. As you swatch it, it gives a slight creamy sheen. Incredibly smooth and pigments, I do wonder how these will blend with a brush. It may be that they are better with a finger, since the formula is slightly… thicker. I don’t know if that’s the best word to use, but it’s the only way I can think to describe it. It’s definitely a very special formula and it’s lovely to have a new formula to try! I feel like this palette is the star of the whole collection!
TEMTING FATE LIPSTICKS – MIX OF MATTE AND AMPLIFIED FORMULAS
There are 6 shades of lipstick in the MAC Tempting Fate Collection. There are three mattes and three amplified. Each lipstick is £19.50 and available at MAC UK.
I purchased the shade “On a petal-still” This is the amplified formula and is a pinky nude. It does look slightly darker than the photos on the MAC website, but it’s still a gorgeous neutral pink, which we all know is my favourite colour for lipstick!
The shades are as follows:
- Burnished Beige – Tan nude (amplified)
- Avant garnet – Red (matte)
- Dust grape – dark purple (matte)
- Tarnished reputation – deep pumpkin (matte)
- On a petal-still – neutral pink (amplified)
- Bittersweet – fuchsia {amplified}
I find the MAC matte formula a little too drying for my tastes, although the colours they’ve chosen are stunning and perfect for Autumn. The amplified formula is a more opaque cremesheen type lipstick. I have a few of these and they are lovely. Not my favourite formula by them, but it’s moisturising and makes your lips look healthy.
Here’s a swatch of On A Petal-Still:
TEMPTING FATE EYE KOHL
In this collection, there’s three shades of Eye Kohl; Cobalt Kohl, Better than Beige and Pine For Me. They’re £17.50 each. I almost bought the dark green eyeliner as I love green eyeshadow. I do have dark green eyes, so I always used to think I couldn’t wear green eyeshadow/eyeliner, but I can. It actually looks good and makes a nice change from my normal beige/brown/pink choices.
TEMPTING FATE STROBE FACE GLAZE
Now these are super interesting to me. If there was a colour I could wear, I would have bought one, but they’re a bit too deep for my fair skin. They’re described as a “glossy blush” and are £22 each. They give the “dewiest, flushed glow”. I do find the shades slightly confusing though. Unless they’ve gone for a bronze, blush and highlight vibe, but they say they’re blushes? There’s a plum, a dark brown and a coppery gold. Great for deeper skin, but I can’t see the brown or gold being blush like on any skin tone.
We have:
- Rose Gold Glow – plum with gold pearl
- Barococoa brown – brown with gold pearl
- Punk in spice – pumpkin with gold pearl
EXTRAS
There’s also a gold eyeshadow brush in this collection; it’s the MAC 224S and it’s £22. The Fix Plus is £24. It’s a shimmery gold version. Hopefully the shimmer is fine enough to add glow without adding chunks of shimmer/glitter!
PACKAGING
How gorgeous is this packaging? It’s matte card with plants and fruit on it and gold decorative swirls. The lipstick cases are purple and have the same pattern as the outer box.
The eyeshadow palette is in cardboard packaging, matching patter on the outside, gold inner with the embossed shadows.
The eye kohls have the print down the entire length of the pencil with a gold lid. The Strobe Face Glazes come in plastic tubes with the Tempting Fate pattern on. The eyeshadow is gold with matte and shiny sections embossed with pattern. The Fix Plus is a clear bottle with a gold pattern on.
Here’s the packaging from the products I picked up:
DO YOU NEED IT?
It would be amazing if I could just scream YES. However, I do think there are certain elements of the MAC Tempting Fate Collection that aren’t worth the money. The Fix Plus is £24!! I remember when it used to be like £19! The normal ones are £22 and there is already a golden Fix Plus which you can get for £22. I suspect it’s the same formula as the one from the Tempting Fate collection. If not, I doubt you’d be able to tell the difference on the skin. It’s a golden, shimmery fixing spray. I would save the £2 and get the normal one.
The eyeshadow brush is nice, but it would have been nicer to see a small eye set. One brush is a little random. With the eye kohls I would say get one if you’re already on the lookout for a new eyeliner, or if you know you love the MAC kohl formula. The green is tempting, but I don’t think I’d use it enough to justify it.
The Strobe Face Glazes are a bit confusing. As I mentioned above, they’re called blushes, but only one of the shades is what I’d call blush like. The other’s are a highlighter and contour/bronzer. If they had done three blush shades; say a light, medium and deep I would have been all over it! Or if they’d just said they were all purpose rather than actually calling them blush.
If any of the shades interest you, I’d say they are worth a try though and worth the money. Plus they come in cute packaging!
For me, the highlights of this collection are the lipsticks and eyeshadow palette. The eyeshadow palette actually feels and looks a bit special! The formulas are new, the whole colour scheme and vibe of the packaging/shadows is cool and fits the Autumn theme perfectly! 100% worth the money!
I’m a sucker for a MAC lipstick and I love the colours in the MAC Tempting Fate Collection are really interesting. Some gorgeous deeper shades, a real beigey nude and a pinky nude. I definitely think these are worth the money.
And there we are, a bit of a mixed bag, but overall the fact that there’s a real star product in this collection means it’s worth it and I would say you need it. Not every single item in the collection is the same, but overall I love the aesthetic and colour scheme. I actually can’t believe we’re nearly in Autumn already. I saw a Beauty Advent Calendar for sale today, it’s only August. Time is flying by!!
