Hiya everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend and Father’s Day (more about that in a minute)! Today I’m sharing The 5 Best Skin Tints for all skin types! Over the last couple of years, what I want from a base product has changed. I still like a medium coverage foundation, but I find myself going for lighter coverage and skin tints more often than not. Hence the need for me to share the 5 Best Skin Tints!
I’ve tested loads of skin tints over the past 2 years, all budgets and all types of finish. The cheapest one I’ll mention today is about £14. The most expensive is around £50.
Before we get to that, let’s talk dads. I am totally biased, but I lucked out with my Dad. He is awesome. The hardest worker you’ll ever meet, protective, funny, supportive, loyal. We went over to see him on Sunday, I’m so glad we are able to go inside people’s houses now. Plus, it’s been hard to see my mum for Mother’s Day and my Dad for Father’s Day over the last decade as we lived 100 miles away. This is the first year in ages we could see him for Father’s Day. Unfortunately for UK Mother’s Day we were still in lockdown this year! Hopefully we’ll get to make up for it for my mum’s birthday later in the year.
We had a good talk about stuff, people, watched F1 and ate KFC haha. It’s funny, just as you think certain people have finally got the message and left you alone, up they crop again. They just don’t get the hint that we are all done with them. My dad said that we never started any of this, but he’s over it and we definitely are. He’s busy, we’re busy, we’ve got lives, so just get over it and move on. Honestly boring the tits off me now. If I rolled my eyes anymore, they would be inside my head!
ANYWAY… let’s get into the 5 Best Skin Tints!

MILANI GLOW HYDRATING SKIN TINT – £14.25 from Beauty Bay
Milani is one of my favourite drugstore brands. They’re slightly higher priced than some drugstore brands, but I do feel like drugstore prices are creeping up across the board. This product is gorgeous. It’s the most glowy that I’m going to mention, so if you have really oily skin, you may want to either skip this or powder. My skin is combination and I get slightly oily in the t-zone. I don’t actually powder this, but you certainly look dewy when wearing it. I’m actually really into a glowy base now as parts of my face are drier than they used to be, so it doesn’t bother me. However, I just wanted to mention the fact you may want to powder it.
This skin tint is similar to the Kevyn Aucoin one I’ll mention later on. It’s more glowy, but wear time and application is similar. To me, it’s worth having both as they aren’t identical. But, if you’d never tried a skin tint before and wanted to try a more affordable one, then I’d go for the Milani first.
This has no discernible fragrance, it’s lightweight and you can apply it easily with fingers, a brush or a sponge. It looks gorgeous all ways. Although it looks dewy, it doesn’t stay tacky on your skin. Products you place on top don’t move it around either. I’ve used both cream and powder products on top of this skin tint and they don’t affect it.
Wear time is great with this, I get a good 12 hours before it starts to just separate a little bit around my mouth. Skin Tints and Tinted Moisturisers tend to wear less than foundations anyway. However I do feel like they are getting more long wearing. All of the products in my Best Skin Tints will wear at least 12 hours.
This is a very hydrating formula, it doesn’t emphasise any texture or dry flakes. It glides over the skin and blends seamlessly. The formula has 29% plant derived squalane, coconut water and electrolytes. So if you’re sensitive to any of those, give this one a miss.
I haven’t met a Milani product I didn’t like and this Skin Tint is no different. It’s so perfect for Summer and makes you look glowy and radiant. The only thing I wish is that the shade range was better. Yes, skin tints are more forgiving as the coverage is lighter. They can adapt to more skin tones, but there’s only one deep shade in this range.
LUMENE INVISIBLE ILLUMINATION INSTANT BEAUTY GLOW SERUM – £27 from Look Fantastic
Oh my goodness, there was no way I was doing a Best Skin Tints post without mentioning this beauty. I’ve had this product for about a year now and I LOVE it! It’s so lightweight and long wearing, barely transfers to masks and looks gorgeous on the skin.
The finish of the Instant Beauty Glow Serum is natural/slightly matte. It never looks flat, but it’s also not overly dewy. It’s completely weightless on the skin, blends in like a dream and you don’t need to use much to cover your face. The coverage is definitely on the sheerer end of skin tints. It’s more of an evening out of your skin than coverage. However, it does make a noticeable difference to your skin. When I wear this I always have a good skin and makeup day. It’s just glorious, I love all of the Lumene products I’ve tried so far and am desperate to try more.
I normally prefer pumps for my base products and this has a dropper. However, the formula is quite runny, so I tend to drop it directly onto my brush and then blend. I don’t like to apply this with fingers, I don’t feel it looks as good as it can. With a brush it smooths into the skin effortlessly, no sinking into pores or emphasising texture/acne/dry flakes.
This is also one of the quickest base products to apply. If you’ve only got 5 minutes to throw some makeup on, this is always the product I go for. Apply this, a clear lip balm, mascara and a glowy blush and I’m ready to go! I’ll definitely be wearing this all summer long!
KEVYN AUCOIN STRIPPED NUDE SKIN TINT – £36 from Look Fantastic
When this first released I was interested, but I held off buying it for a few months. I’m pretty sure I bought it when there was 20% off and I’m so glad I did because it’s stunning! A few weeks ago I was wearing nothing but. It just lasts and lasts. This is the longest wearing skin tint in this Best Of.
The finish is naturally radiant. It’s not as dewy as the Milani, but it is still quite radiant. The only thing I don’t enjoy about this product is the scent. It smells a bit like paint stripper, but it does dissipate once applied. I like to first apply this with a brush, then go over with a sponge to just dab it in more. It works every time and looks flawless. It’s hydrating and lightweight.
This Skin Tint can be built up a little and probably has the most coverage of my 5 Best Skin Tints. The Kevyn Aucoin does set down and performs the most like a foundation, but I still would say it’s more a skin tint that foundation. I can get 16 hours out of this before it starts to separate. It keeps my oils at bay for at least 13/14 hours and again all creams and products work on top of this.
I also love to use this product on top of the By Terry CC Serum. I wear it with primers too, but I do love the combination of the CC Serum and Stripped Nude Skin Tint. They seem like a match made in heaven.
Shade range wise, this skin tint has a good amount of options. There’s a range of shades from light to deep and separate undertones as well. The formula is quite runny, but easy to work with.
NUDESTIX TINTED COVER – £32 from Look Fantastic
Now, this is labelled as a foundation, but the description is of a skin tint. And having worn this product many times, I wouldn’t say it’s a foundation. It’s definitely more of a skin tint… Their own description is “feels like your normal skin, but better, with a subtle hint of color”.
Coverage wise, this sits in the middle between the Lumene Instant Beauty Glow and the Kevyn Aucoin. It evens out some redness and covers faded spots. However, for more coverage on acne I conceal. It’s pretty good transfer wise with masks, you’ll get a little bit, but it won’t take chunks of your face makeup off.
It lasts well too. I get about 12-13 hours before I start noticing it on my face. It keeps my oils at bay well and has a natural matte finish. Powders and creams work well on top without budging the base.
Even though this is a natural matte finish, it’s not drying on the skin. If you have large flakes of dry skin, it will cling to them. However, texture looks great and it doesn’t pool in pores. Consistency wise, it is on the thicker side. It’s still plenty fluid enough to spread easily, but it won’t go running off your hands like some tints. There is a slight scent, slightly herbal. It feel refreshing on the skin, a little cooling, but that stops after you’ve blended it in.
The shade range is pretty good, maybe slightly light/medium heavy with fewer deep shades. It’s a great skin tint and I wear it a lot! It’s an effortless product, as are all of these skin tints, they make you look like you, but the you that has perfect, natural looking skin.
CHANEL LES BEIGES EAU DE TEINT WATER-FRESH TINT – £50 from Feel Unique
For the final product in my 5 Best Skin Tints we have the Chanel Water-Fresh Tint. It’s the most expensive skin tint I’m mentioning and also the most runny and lightest in coverage.
In terms of coverage, it’s barely there, but it does something magical to your skin, so I had to mention it because I love it. It’s the most unique formula too. The way it works is that there are spheres of pigment inside the watery fluid. As you apply to the skin, the pigment spheres burst and blend into your skin.
I was very apprehensive to buy this product as I’ve tried Chanel base products in the past and they’ve been OK, but nothing special. However, I kept hearing just how amazing this Water-Fresh Tint is, so when John Lewis had some money off, I bought it and I’m SO glad I did.
It feels incredibly refreshing when you first apply it and it applies best with a brush. There’s a small brush included with the product and usually I don’t bother with brushes that come with products, but it’s actually pretty good. If you want to apply it more quickly though, a big brush will make it a cinch.
This sets down to be a natural matte. I think it’s the most matte of these skin tints, but it still looks like healthy skin. There’s no gathering of the product anywhere or settling into lines and pores, it’s super lightweight. I will say that out of all of these skin tints, this one wears the least amount of time. But, you still get a good 12 hours. Transfer wise, this does transfer, but because it’s so lightweight you don’t take your mask off and notice bits of your base missing. As it sets down, there’s no issue with blush/bronzer/highlighter budging the base.
This skin tint is for those people who really want a no makeup, makeup look. I’ve tried to cover all bases with my Best Skin Tints. From slightly more coverage and then from matte to glowy. Skin Tints are super versatile and there are so many to choose from, so I really hope I’ve managed to share the perfect skin tint for your needs!
