Today I’m sharing my favourite concealers with you; from medum to full coverage, glowy to matte and at all price ranges!
Hiya guys, how has your week been? I finally feel like I’m getting back into the swing of things work wise. It’s taken a couple of weeks for me to settle into my new routine and our new routine as a family. My husband now works from home 100% of the time, not just since March when everything kicked off!
It’s been an adjustment, but here we are. I now have a studio which is fantastic as I can go and take photos, then leave everything set up.
Now, today. Let’s talk about my favourite concealers. My Top 5 to be exact. I adore trying new base products and finding the next best thing when it comes to foundations and concealers. This post has been a long time in the making, but I finally feel like I can share my favourite concealers with you all! I have all budgets covered, radiant, matte, medium and full coverage. I’m going to break everything down for you, so let’s get into it!
DISLAIMER: John Lewis, Beauty Bay and Look Fantastic links are affiliate. All products purchased by me.
MAYBELLINE FIT ME CONCEALER – £5.99 from Look Fantastic
COST PER ML: £5.99 for 6.8ml = £0.88 per ml.
COVERAGE: A solid medium with a few dots. Can be built up to almost full.
FINISH: Quite matte/natural looking.
PACKAGING: Plastic tube with a doe foot. You get 6.8ml of product, which is pretty standard.
SHADE RANGE: 17/18 depends where you get it from. Shade range is quite confusing as some shades are available in some places and not others. My shade 03 is not available everywhere and sometimes websites will say shade 10 is the lightest.
PROS/CONS: This is great for covering acne. I find it wears for a long time without requiring a touch up. Sometimes I just have to tap it back into my chin if I have a lot of acne to cover. This blends easily with a brush and sponge and manages to not draw attention to my imperfections. If you have large dry patches, it will cling to them, like most things!
I don’t need to set this concealer, however, it wears well both unset and set. It doesn’t clog my pores, break me out etc. I find it very agreeable as a formula and I love the price! There’s also no fragrance in case you’re sensitive to it.
I don’t love this concealer under my eyes though as I find it a bit too drying. I do have very dry under eyes though.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: This concealer has outperformed a lot of high end ones for me. It is better than the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. Until a couple of the concealers that I’m about to talk about came out, this was Holy Grail status for me. However, I have now found a couple of concealers that work for both my under eyes and for covering acne.
SHISEIDO SYNCHRO SKIN SELF REFRESHING CONCEALER – £29 from John Lewis
COST PER ML: £29 for 5.8ml = £5.00 per ml.
COVERAGE: Medium. You can’t build this to full.
FINISH: Natural, a very slight radiance
PACKAGING: Plastic tube with a doe foot. The doe foot for this concealer is an hourglass shape. Having used concealers with “normal” doe foots and this one, I don’t think the hourglass shaped one is special.
SHADE RANGE: 16 – fairly balanced between light and dark shades.
PROS/CONS: This concealer wears great under my eyes, but not on acne. On acne, I find it creases within an hour and then just disappears.
This is one of the best wearing concealers under my eyes. I have very fine lines under my eyes, which I’ve had for as long as I can remember and this barely settles into them at all. I’ve never found a concealer that is 100% crease free, but this is up there. I didn’t set this concealer for a long time and it wore great, but in the hotter months, I did need to set it to get longevity.
This blends best with a brush I find, then I just tap it with a sponge to make sure it’s fully blended. It’s quite lightweight and you only need a few dots to cover under your eye. I have pretty dark purple circles under my eyes and it will never 100% cover them, but it covers more than enough for me.
The con for me is the price for what you get. 5.8ml is a tiny amount of product!
OVERALL THOUGHTS: I love this concealer and it was my favourite concealer release of 2019, so I would repurchase. As we come towards the end of 2020, this is still one of my favourite concealers, so it has stood the test of time! I would just wait for a 10/15% off code to purchase!
NUDESTIX NUDEFIX CREAM CONCEALER – £24 from Beauty Bay
COST PER ML: £24 for 10ml = £2.40 per ml.
COVERAGE: Light/Medium
FINISH: Natural Radiant
PACKAGING: A squeezy tube with a doe foot applicator.
SHADE RANGE: 12 shades – very light, only 2 dark shades.
PROS/CONS: This is definitely the lightest coverage in my top 5 favourite concealers, however, you can build it up to just about a medium. This covers my acne and under eyes. It’s hydrating and super easy to blend. You can blend with fingers, a sponge or brush and it works great.
I don’t need to set this, but sometimes I do. If I’m doing a super light makeup where I just use my By Terry CC Serum and then conceal the centre of my face, I don’t set it. If I’m doing a full face of makeup then I will lightly set it.
This is very skin like and makes you look like you have a healthy glow. It again, barely creases under my eyes and it lasts all day without needing to be touched up.
The only con I can think of is the shade range. It’s very light skinned heavy with only about 2 shades for dark skin. Also shade 1 (the one I have) was listed as fair neutral and it’s very pinky/orange. It does work, but just beware!
OVERALL THOUGHTS: This is the newest concealer to my collection, but I’ve fallen for it hard! It’s amazing and I don’t care that the coverage isn’t super high. It’s ultra comfortable to wear, lightweight and lasts so well.
GIORGIO ARMANI LUMINOUS SILK CONCEALER – £32 from John Lewis
COST PER ML: £32 for 12ml = £2.60 per ml
COVERAGE: Medium
FINISH: Radiant
PACKAGING: Plastic tube with large asymmetrical doe foot. It’s wider on one side for larger areas of application.
SHADE RANGE: 20 shades, fairly well balanced with light, medium and deep shades. Do wish the lightest shade was lighter.
PROS/CONS: This is another concealer where I can use it on my acne and under my eyes. It’s not the best on acne, but it’s still really good. You just have to reblend it by tapping over it a couple of times.
This has a beautiful finish, just like the Luminous Silk foundation which is one of my all time favourites. It really does live up to the Luminous Silk name. It’s really lightweight, super easy to blend and wears well. I get a tiny bit of settling into my fine lines, but nothing major. I use a brush and/or sponge with this concealer.
This is probably the most radiant concealer on this list of favourite concealers. If you have really oily skin, I don’t think you’d like this unless you always set it. It can look very glowy, but it is beautiful.
Cons for me are the shades. They pull very yellow as I always find with Armani. It doesn’t matter if they call a shade neutral, warm or cool, they pull pretty yellow.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: I love that even though this is a high end brand, you actually get the most product out of all of the concealers I’ve mentioned. Cost per ml isn’t actually much, considering some Armani products are wayyyy up there in price. This will last for ages as you don’t need much. It looks beautiful and wears well and it’s definitely earned its place on my Top 5 Favourite Concealers list.
HUDA BEAUTY OVERACHIEVER CONCEALER – £24 from Cult Beauty
COST PER ML: £24 for 10ml = £2.40 per ml.
COVERAGE: Full
FINISH: Matte
PACKAGING: Squeezy tube with an angled metal spatula to apply. I don’t love the applicator as I find it just spreads the product around and doesn’t blend. I like to squeeze a tiny amount onto my ring finger, warm it up with my fingers and dab under my eyes. Then I blend with a damp sponge.
SHADE RANGE: 20 shades, fairly balanced with fair/light/medium/deep. Their lightest shade is REALLY light. I have two shades of this as I’m usually the lightest shade, so ordered this in Whipped Cream. It’s even too light for me and I’m pale as a ghost! I now have the shade Marshmallow and it’s perfect.
PROS/CONS: This is the most matte looking concealer on this list and I can sometimes struggle if I haven’t piled on the eye cream. However, it covers everything with just a few dots. It’s really full coverage, yet still manages to be lightweight. I used to wear this for shift work and it got me through the day no problems. I can’t use it on acne as it clings to everything and makes my acne more noticeable. However, if you have some serious dark circles under your eyes like me, this will be your friend!
OVERALL THOUGHTS: This is a great concealer and I think oily skinned people will love it. Dry skinned people might not enjoy it so much. It’s not the most drying formula I’ve ever used, but it is on the drier end of the spectrum. I would advise moisturising well and don’t set it if you have dry skin.
You get quite a bit of product for the price and since it’s so full coverage, it will last forever! When I have bouts of insomnia and look like death warmed up, I crack this concealer out as I know it’s got my back!
SWATCHES
Now, let’s see the shades I am in these concealers. As you can see, brands ideas of “fair neutral” are very different. However, I can get away with wearing all of these. I think if they were all full coverage I wouldn’t, but the lighter ones still blend in seamlessly.
And there we have it, my Top 5 Favourite Concealers. I hope I’ve given you enough information to help you decide which of these you might like to try!
