Happy Thursday! Today we are talking about my Autumn Skincare Must Haves! When the days get colder my skin can be very problematic. It has a mind of its own and can change from day to day!
After much trial and error I’ve found a few skincare must haves which help my skin in this transient season where I don’t need thick, heavy moisturisers, but I do need more hydration than in the Summer. Some of these products will actually get me through Winter as well, but I will bring out the big guns in the dead of Winter!
Korean skincare has revolutionised the way I do hydration! They prove that you can have light as air formulations, but bouncy, plump, hydrated skin, but you’ll see a few products that aren’t Korean/Japanese.
My skin has improved 100 times over since I started doing lighter layers of skincare. It just does not like heavy creams or oils, so, let’s get into a few of my favourite Autumn skincare products!
ETUDE HOUSE SOON JUNG WHIP CLEANSER – £11.88 from YesStyle
This cleanser doesn’t boast about how hydrating it is, but this post is about products that make your face feel hydrated, it’s not just a list of products that claim to be hydrating. Yes there are plenty of items that are hydrating and it’s their sole purpose, but I look for products that don’t make my skin feel tight or dry and where my skin doesn’t feel stripped of its natural oils. This cleanser falls into that category. It’s a second step cleanser for me after I’ve removed my makeup with cleansing oil and I’ve gone through 2 whole bottles and have another on its way.
I LOVE this cleanser. Don’t worry about the foaming part – it isn’t full of SLS. It’s a liquid cleanser in the bottle, but the pump makes it into this light as air foam. It’s very gentle, doesn’t cause my skin any kind of reaction and is the perfect step before I start adding my specifically hydrating products. My skin feels balanced and clean after using this cleanser.
LANEIGE CREAM SKIN REFINER – £19.55 from YesStyle
This is the newest addition to my skincare must haves. It’s a toner… but unlike any toner I’ve used before. It’s a milky, watery product, that claims it’s so hydrating that you don’t need to moisturise after using it. I wouldn’t go that far, but it is very hydrating and light.
When you’ve applied it, it does start to feel like a moisturiser. It’s really bizarre as it starts out milky, then as it feels like it becomes a lightweight moisturiser as you pat it in! I do stil need to moisturise after using this, but if you had very oily skin maybe you wouldn’t need to!
HADA LABO GOKUJYUN HYALURONIC ACID LOTION – £10.92 from YesStyle
I can’t sing the praises of this product enough, it was in my October favourites too and it really is a skincare must have for me. It’s beautiful, lightweight and makes your skin feel so plump and hydrated. You use this product after toner, but before serum.
You don’t need cotton pads to apply this product, you just pat it on. It’s a strange consistency. It’s almost like water, but it’s got a slight “gloop” to it. I’ve been using this as a toner recently and my skin loves it. Since I incorporated this into my regime every day, I haven’t had a single dry flake. If you were only going to try one product from Hada Labo, I would recommend this one. It’s just fabulous!
HEMA HYDRATING SKIN BOOSTER – £8 from HEMA
This product is a hidden gem! It’s similar to the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra, but not a full on dupe. It’s the same kind of idea; a light, hydrating gel, that you can use alone or add to your moisturisers.
I like to add one drop of this to my moisturiser in the morning and I also add it to my night eye cream as I suffer with dry under eyes. I sometimes use it alone on my eyes in the morning. It’s really beautiful, no fragrance, nasty ingredients, it’s a plain, simple hydrator and I’m so happy I found this product! I’m excited to try more skincare from Hema!
DRUNK ELEPHANT B-HYDRA INTENSIVE HYDRATION SERUM – £44 from Space NK
I’ve use this serum for years and I love it. It is similar to the HEMA, but where the HEMA serum is just hyaluronic acid, this serum has vitamin B5 and ceramides in. It’s a more complex formula I would say, but well worth the money. It might be expensive to begin with, but you get 50ml in there; I’ve had mine for about 18 months and it’s still going strong as you only need one pump added into your moisturiser.
You can use this alone, but I never have. I always add it into my moisturiser. My skin loves this and I know if I have a reaction to anything, I can go back to basics, get rid of all other serums, but still use this and it calms my skin down. I know a lot of people swear by Drunk Elephant, but this is actually the only thing I’d repurchase from them. Controversial I know, I’ve tried lots of their products, but this is the stand out product for me.
SKIN&LAB RED CREAM – £14.12 from YesStyle
Although this is called a cream, I would say it’s a gel cream. It’s the thickest product out of all of the products I’ve mentioned, but it’s still a skincare must have for me because it doesn’t clog my pores and makes my skin feel gorgeously plump! Even though it’s thicker in consistency, it still isn’t overly heavy.
I’ve gone through 2 tubs of this and it will also do you through to winter if you have combo/oily skin. In Winter I alternate an oil one night and this the other and it keeps those dry flakes at bay!
This is the only product mentioned that has a scent and it’s going to be a love it or hate it scent as it’s rose. I’m non plussed on it, I prefer not to have my products smelling of anything, but as long as it’s not full of fake fragrance I don’t mind too much.
This would be for those really chilly Autumnal days, it’s not light layers of hydration as mentioned above, but I like to use my layers of hydration, then lock everything in with this or an oil (we’ll get onto those in a minute!)
ACURE SERIOUSLY SOOTHING BLUE TANSY NIGHT OIL – £13.20 from YesStyle
This oil is glorious and so reasonably priced! I orignally bought it to see if it was a dupe for the Herbivore Lapis oil and it is! The ingredients are very similar, there are a few things the Acure doesn’t have, but I wanted the oils for their blue tansy soothing properties, the other ingredients I’m not bothered by if they do the same thing which is lock all my serums in.
My skin transformed when I started using blue tansy on it. I started off using it after retinol to try and soothe the fact retinol can be harsh. I loved it so much, I now use it every year. Neither the Lapis or this Acure oil break me out or clog my pores, they don’t feel greasy, they absorb quickly and my skin feels calm after application.
HERBIVORE EMERALD DEEP MOISTURE GLOW OIL – £42 from Space NK
This is a hemp based oil. I am pretty sure it’s Herbivore’s newest oil and it’s really moisturising. It’s slightly heavier than the blue tansy oil, so I only use this a couple of times a week after I use a chemical exfoliant. Although this is slightly heavier than the tansy oil, it’s not what I would call a thick oil and it doesn’t feel greasy.
It does take slightly longer to absorb into the skin, but it really does deeply moisturise. Your skin feel glorious when you wake up the next morning and so plump!
So, there we have it, my Autumn Skincare Must Haves, all the products I need to keep my skin hydrated, plump and dewy this Autumn. I’d love to know what your skincare must haves are!
