These cute little Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats are kid friendly and so easy to make! The perfect little Halloween treats for adults and kids alike!
Am I the only person who gets excited by the post arriving?
It’s just, at the moment, we’re getting RSVPs back for our wedding party and it’s so fun getting them each day and seeing who is coming! It makes it feel more real to me and I get even more excited! Also it means I can do a seating plan soon as I love being organised! I want everything major done by Christmas, because I just know it will be like we blinked and missed January completely, then we’ll be off to become Mr and Mrs!
My back is still horrific and I’ve been stuck on the sofa pretty much for 2 weeks. I’ve been trying to take short walks just to the end of the road, but even that is a challenge right now. Thing is, it’s a circle because I know if I sit and rest all the time it won’t be that good for my back as it will get stiff, but I’m in so much pain I can’t do anything. Thank goodness I made and shot plenty of recipes to keep the blog going for a few weeks!
My fiancé has been a star and has been driving me around since I can’t drive myself. I feel bad though as he is at work all day everyday and then he has to look after me.
Anyway, Halloween is fast approaching and I’ve created these super cute and fun to make Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats. Kids will love shaping and decorating these little treats – although to be honest, I loved it too and I’m almost 27!
You only need a few ingredients and they’re ready to eat in 30 minutes. Chewy, oozy and crunchy, these are divine and cute to look at!
Adults will have to do the heating of the marshmallow fluff and butter, but once the mixture has cooled slightly, let the kids go wild shaping them into balls and sticking in their “stems” and “leaves”.
I don’t know about you, but I love making easy treats for Halloween, I love chocolate and candy as much as the next person, but sometimes it’s nice to make things yourself, especially when they are this easy to make!
You could use chocolate chips for the stem if you can find large ones. I’ve never managed to find jumbo chips in this country, so I used Cadbury Curly Wurly Squirlies. These are just mini curly wurlys and they look kind of like worms!
I cut both ends off and then cut each one in half; they were the perfect size and angle for the stem of these rice krispie treats!
For the leaves, I used green m&ms, but you could use green writing icing and pipe on some leaves if you’d rather. I just think you can never have enough chocolate and candy, so m&ms it was!
For the faces, I used black writing icing and did a pretty simple pumpkin face because I am not artistic and cannot draw to save my life. Triangles for eyes and a line for their mouths is about all I can manage! 😀
You can decorate each one with a different face if you want and get really creative. I love seeing people’s amazing artworks on their pumpkins each year. I so wish I was good at carving faces!
Leave the pumpkins to set for 10 minutes and then dig in to these crunchy little treats. Hope you enjoy!
Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
- 7.5 oz (213g) jar of Marshmallow Fluff
- 1/2 stick (56g) unsalted butter
- 6-8 drops orange food colouring, or add as much as you want to get desired colour
- 4 cups (140g) rice krispies
- 12 large chocolate chips or Cadbury Curly Wurly Squirlies, with the ends cut off and sliced in half. (you can also use any straight, longish piece of chocolate candy you can find!)
- 12 green M&Ms
- Black writing icing
Instructions
- Place the marshmallow fluff and butter into a large saucepan over a low heat. Stir continuously until the butter is melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add in the orange food colouring, a few drops at a time until you get the desired shade of orange.
- Add in the rice krispies and stir until all the rice krispies are orange.
- Line a baking tray with grease proof paper/a silicone mat/Silpat.
- I find the shaping easier wearing disposable gloves, but you can do it with bare hands if you'd rather. They don't stick at all to the gloves, so that's why I wore them!! - Take a heaping 2tbsp of mixture and shape into a ball.
- Place onto your lined baking tray and stick either your large chocolate chips or curly wurly into the top of the pumpkin ball, in the centre.
- Press a green M&M to one side of the stem. Repeat until you've used all the rice krispie mixture. This mixture makes 12-14 rice krispie treats.
- Leave to set for 10 minutes before taking your black writing icing and drawing a face on one side of your pumpkin rice krispie treat. I did the simplest face possible with triangles for eyes and a zig zag for a mouth because I cannot draw, but go wild and get creative!
- Leave to set for 10-15 minutes and then enjoy! Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats will keep in an airtight container, at room temperature, for 5 days.
