Some men and women are looking to have a slimmer face to feel more attractive or for other personal/health reasons. Masseter reduction is a lesser-known procedure that helps people achieve these goals. It is also known as a V-line procedure. It impacts the face shape as the masseter reduction lessens jawlines that are more square and creates a tapered V or oval shape.

The enlarged masseter muscle is reduced with the help of botox masseter reduction to relax the muscles. As beauty industry and standards are constantly evolving globally, it can become a complex topic. It’s important to consider what others’ journeys are about and why specific treatments may be done. The following article will help you understand when the procedure was first introduced and provide a guide on it.

History of Masseter Reduction

Botox treatment, or Botulinum toxin as previously known, first started off to help treat muscle spasms in the face and around the eyes between 1977 and 1989, when it was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Botox was also originally used to help treat a painful condition that affected your neck muscles. This was known as cervical dystonia which was first reported in 1985. If you consider this treatment, it’s essential to ask if Botox is right for you and do your research.

Hypertrophy is when the muscle increases in size and creates a more prominent jawline. Masseters are part of muscles that help you chew foods and are connected to the lower jawbones and the cheekbones. 2013 and 2014 were when clinical trials first began on the masseter muscles. The reason for this was to treat masseteric hypertrophy or facial asymmetry.

Other than reducing the size and shape of their jaw, it has also been used as a treatment to help people with reducing pain, rigidity in the jaw, headaches, and teeth grinding or clenching. The masseter reduction procedure can be done both surgically or non-surgically. It does come with complications, so it would need to be done by a qualified professional with experience. The non-surgical procedure uses Botox masseter reduction or Dysport, which works as muscle relaxing agents.

What The Procedure Is

Other forms of releasing that pain and tension are known as a masseter muscle reduction massage. This involves clenching your fists and using your knuckles to slowly massage from just below your cheekbones down to your jaw in a straight line a couple of times. Make sure not to do it too hard but with just enough pressure.

If masseter muscle reduction exercises do not help you relieve your pain, you might consider the treatment for therapeutic purposes. The treatment will benefit you for approximately three to four months and takes fifteen minutes to do. The masseter muscle reduction surgery is different from botox masseter reduction as it is permanent. They remove a piece of the masseter muscle and some bone, but you need to consult your specialist.
