Colourpop have recently released their Stone Cold Fox Palette and today I’m sharing my first impressions, some swatches and comparing it to the Bare Necessities palette!

Hiya guys, how are you all doing? It’s the first day of “lockdown 2.0” but I’m already feeling a bit annoyed. Someone I know is going to a house viewing in a stranger’s house. Another friend is being called INTO the office, when they’ve been working from home since March, yet we can’t see our family.
Anyway, not here to talk about the world right now, we are here to escape and talk about makeup! Colourpop recently release the Stone Cold Fox Palette and as soon as I saw a sneak peek of it, I knew I was buying it.
I love cool toned eyeshadows so much. I’m lucky that I can wear cool and warmer toned eyeshadow, but I’m drawn to cool toned ones more.
Today I’ll be sharing swatches, my first impressions and a comparison to the Bare Necessities palette, which they released some time ago.
COST
The Stone Cold Fox Palette is a 30 pan eyeshadow palette, which is the biggest size Colourpop do, but it’s still only $34. I love Colourpop’s formula, as they seem to have improved a lot over the last couple of years.
The total weight of this palette is 33g, so the cost per gram is $1.03. In GBP the palette is £26 with a cost per gram of £0.86.
Each pan is 1.1g which is slightly below what you would normally get. Still, I don’t think I’m ever going to hit pan on this palette as there’s so much choice.

PACKAGING
The Stone Cold Fox Palette comes in sturdy cardboard packaging. It has a magnetic closure and comes with a box. I love the colour scheme, the cardboard feels thick and really sturdy. This will be a great travel companion as it has everything you could ever need. However, it is also pretty thin and easy to fit in suitcases. (If we can ever travel again!)
The cardboard around the shadows is matte, so it will stain. The Bare Necessities palette is the same, which is why I’m mentioning it. Once I swatched the palette, no matter how careful I was, I got a little bit of shadow on the cardboard. And… it just won’t wipe off!
I do prefer a glossy cardboard in terms of ease to keep clean. Nevertheless, I do love the look of the matte cardboard.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
This palette is stunning! Just look at all the gorgeous colours. You have to hand it to Colourpop, they know how to put a palette together! Their colour schemes are beautiful.
I was quite surprised by the middle row because a few shades, when swatched, actually pull a little warm. Overall though, it’s a gorgeous cool toned palette. I was expecting it to be quite like the Natasha Denona Glam Palette, but in the flesh, they’re quite different. I did a first impressions post on the ND palette a while ago and you can find it here.
Let’s talk about the formula in the Stone Cold Fox Palette. The shimmers are smooth, pigmented and utterly gorgeous. They look really foiled.
The mattes… I’m a tiny bit underwhelmed with some of them. A few are a little dusty and need some building up. However, I do prefer shades that are able to be built on the eye. I’m not keen on formulas when a blob of colour is deposited and you have a hard time blending.
There’s one shade that is really chunky. It’s incredibly pigmented and the swatch is a single swipe swatch. However, bits of the shadow went everywhere and a big chunk came off as soon as I touched it:
All the other mattes perform well and I don’t mind that they are a little dusty. Just beware you may need to do your eye look first, to avoid ruining your base.

SWATCHES AND COMPARISONS
Here are the swatches from the Stone Cold Fox Palette. These are all on bare skin, with no primer. Some shades I had to build up with a few swipes. However, there’s no wet swatching going on here. These are all dry, finger swatches.
Let’s now look at the Stone Cold Fox Palette next to the Bare Necessities palette.
As you can see, Bare Necessities does pull warmer than Stone Cold Fox. I think they really compliment each other and if you have both, you’re probably set for life with neutrals!
Formula wise, I think they are the same. Minus the one chunky shade in Stone Cold Fox, they are about the same matte and shimmer wise.
It’s definitely worth having both in my eyes. They’re are a couple of shades which look very similar, but I think there are enough shades that are different to make it worthwhile.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I really like the Stone Cold Fox Palette. It’s beautiful and has great shade variation. You have mauves to true silvers in here, with all the transition and light shades you could need. Mid toned browns, plums… there’s everything in this palette. I love that Colourpop have done this palette as a sister to the Bare Necessities. Now you can pick whether to get the warmer neutral or cooler neutral palette, or get both!
I also managed to snag this palette when they had 25% off, so it was a bargain! Well worth the money in my opinion. Even at full price!
Overall, I would recommend this palette. For the money, the formula is great. Yes, Natasha Denona shadows are less chunky. However, her Glam Palette is £60 for 15 shades. Double the price for half the shades! Plus, I just love having loads of different palettes and brands/formulas to play with.
