I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally have my hands on Estée Lauder’s Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation! It was announced at the beginning of the year and the US got it weeks before we did in the UK. It’s so annoying when that happens! I don’t understand why brands can’t release things here and in the states at the same time!
I’ve been totally obsessed with getting this foundation, it had an awful lot to live up to because of the hype I’d created in my head. My husband was well and truly sick of me talking about this foundation and was very happy it finally came out here!
At the moment you can only get it at John Lewis. It comes out everywhere else some time in March. Let’s get into my review!

COST
The Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Foundation is £36 for 35ml. It’s £1.02 per ml. This is a very liquidy product and you don’t need much to cover your face, so I can see this lasting a long time.
PACKAGING
The Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Recue comes in a plastic tube with a pump. I love this type of packaging because it’s travel friendly and hygienic. As much as I think glass bottles are nice to look at, they are not travel friendly. This you can just chuck in your bag and you know it won’t shatter.
The pump is smooth and doesn’t splatter product out. The amount of product you get per pump is small, but I find I only need one pump to cover my face. I also like the fact that when the pump no longer dispenses product, you can cut the tube open and use every single bit of product. I wish more brands would use this type of packaging because it’s brilliant.
SHADE RANGE
This foundation comes in 20 shades. I definitely think this could be improved, but they seem to have a fairly even amount of fair, light, tan and deep shades which is great. Too many brands release 18 medium shades and 2 pale and dark shades.
The shade names and numbers tally up with the Double Wear range though which is fantastic! I know I’m 1N0 in double wear and I am in the Futurist Hydra Rescue as well.
I wish all brands would do this because it’s so anoying being shade 2 in one range and then the company switches it and makes the odd numbers neutral for another range.
Here is the shade 1N0 Porcelain – be aware it is darker than the photo on the website. I was surprised when it arrived and I saw it. I was worried it wouldn’t work, but it does.

This foundation can easily be full coverage. You can also sheer it out which is my favourite way to use it, but it’s buildable and doesn’t cake up. Although the formula is very watery, it’s pigment rich and you only need a few dots to get great medium coverage.
I can’t see whether or not my skin can breathe, but I can say it feels weightless and it doesn’t feel heavy or like it’s clogging my pores. I haven’t broken out from wearing this. I’ve had some pretty bad acne recently, which hasn’t been made any worse by wearing this product.
This foundation does look radiant for a full 12 hours. It looks skin like and give you that healthy glow. After 10 hours it starts to get pretty shiny on me, but a little powder rescues it and I can happily wear this for another 4 hours with it looking great.
Long term wise, I can’t say it soothes my redness, but it certainly doesn’t exacerbate it or make my skin irritated. It does feel more like a serum/light moisturiser when you apply it.
It’s definitely hydrating, I don’t have any dryness when I wear this product and it doesn’t make my skin dry or flaky. My skin does feel hydrated and plump when I first apply this. I would definitely agree that this product is lightweight, it feels like nothing on the skin.
I love the fact that the Futurist Hydra Rescue has SPF45 – I’m super fair, so am very particular with SPF as I burn easily.
APPLICATION AND WEAR TEST
This product is best applied with a brush I think. It goes on very easily and is super easy to blend. I don’t find that I have to set this foundation, yet it still looks perfect all day.
It looks weightless on the skin and never looks heavy or cakey. I don’t find it sinking into my lines and it looks great around my nose too, which is my problem area. The only thing I will say is that it is ever so slightly noticeable on my forehead. I watched Charlotte Holdcroft’s review of this foundation on YouTube yesterday and she had the same thing, so it’s not just me!
It’s not bad, it’s just slighly noticeable. However, with how well it wears everywhere else and how fresh it looks for so long, I am still going to continue using this foundation!
Straight after application:
I don’t have to reblend any parts of my face with this foundation, I only have to powder after 10 hours. It doesn’t change throughout the day, it just looks amazing! I can see this becoming a real go-to for me as it’s so easy to wear and it’s easy to travel with.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I LOVE this foundation! It’s amazing and I’m so happy to have it in my collection! I’m also so glad that it has lived up to the hype! I love how this feels on the skin, how easy it is to blend, how well it wears. Everything – it’s just gorgeous. It makes my skin look so healthy and radiant.
I’ve now tried this foundation with 4 primers and it’s looked great with all of them. I especially like products like this because I want my foundation to look great no matter what primer I use. If foundations are finicky and only work with one primer, I find myself forgetting to use them. We’re all busy and I don’t have hours to spend applying makeup, so I need easy to work with products.
All in all, I highly recommend you try the Futurist Hydra Rescue if you’re in the market for a new foundation. I think it would be great for all skin types and mature skin as it doesn’t sink into lines. It’s also very hydrating, so great for dry skin or combo like me. I always have dry flakes and this foundation doesn’t draw any attention to them, if anything I don’t notice them at all. If you have oily skin, you’ll probably want to set this foundation, but it wears well with powder as well.
