Hi everyone! Today, I’m sharing with you some custom eyeshadow palettes I’ve created recently.
I buy many eyeshadow palettes and I adore collecting them, but sometimes I want a palette which is completely perfect for me.
The answer? Create your own custom palette! All you need is a 9 pan magnetic palette, single eyeshadows and a bit of time to play around!
I have a vast array of single eyeshadows including ones from Anastasia Beverly Hills, Mac, Makeup Geek, Colourpop and Revolution Beauty and I store them all in huge Make Up Forever magnetic palettes… however these huge palettes are not travel friendly and can be quite overwhelming if you’re trying to create a look.
In my custom palettes, I like to use colours which are tonal, I find this the easiest way to create looks. You can look at colours which are opposite to each other on a colour wheel; these colours are called complimentary colours. I don’t tend to create palettes like this as I don’t find them useful for everyday looks. There’s also a great post here about colour theory in makeup.
For these palettes, I took 3 colours in the same family and chose a lighter version, a darker version and a shimmer.
Here is a very brief colour wheel to show how you can use it for creating eyeshadow palettes:
To create a tint of a colour, you add white. To create a shade of it you add black and to create a tone of it you add grey.
I also laid out the palettes so you can go across or down on either end because these shadows are all matte and I place one shimmer in the same tone as the row in the centre. It pleases my OCD to have rows of the same kinds of colours haha!
In these palette there’s an awful lot of Colourpop. 1) I love their shadows and 2) I have a huge collection of Makeup Geek shadows and I initially used them to make these palettes, but as I was searching for them almost every shade had been discontinued which was no help to you guys if you wanted to go and buy them, so I did the palettes again and tried to not use MUG shadows – I did use one because I could not find a perfect match in my other shadows.
To create these travel friendly custom palettes, I went and bought a 9 pan magnetic palette from Superdrug (The Revolution Pro palette which costs £4) and decided to sit with all my shadows and a note book to create some gorgeous palettes. It helps that I’ve worked with colour and design for years because I find it enjoyable and fairly easy to create palettes which are just what I want.
MY PERFECT NEUTRAL WARM PALETTE
Of course there are hundreds, if not thousands of neutral palettes available on the market right now, but I am pale as paper and a lot of times neutral palettes aren’t a one stop shop for me.
I need super pale transition shades and find myself pretty much always needing a quad of eyeshadows I’ve put together which contain shades I can use as a transition.
With this palette, I wanted to create my go to neutral warm palette where I know I can create any type of daytime/work look. I’ve gone for 6 mattes and 3 shimmers, included a base all over lid shade, and a couple of shades to darken the outer v.
Most of the shades are neutral, but they definitely lean warm. I’ll be doing a cool post in a few weeks with cooler neutrals.
This palette includes:
TOP ROW L-R:
Hear Me Out – Colourpop
Celestial – Colourpop
Kid – MAC
MIDDLE ROW L-R:
Wake up Call – Colourpop
Righteous – Revolution Pro
Optional – Colourpop
BOTTOM ROW L-R:
Made to last – Colourpop
West Star – Colourpop
Kosher – Revolution Pro
MY PERFECT PEACHY PINK PALETTE
Now onto my next palette. I am really into pinky peach eyeshadows at the moment, I’ve bought so many palettes which have peaches in them, sometimes they are too bright for me, so I made a custom palette which has pale peaches and dusty pinks with a few neutrals.
This palette is just calling to me right now, I’m in love! It’s perfect for Spring and I want to go put it on my eyes now!
This palette includes:
TOP ROW L-R:
Soft Peach – Anastasia Beverly Hills
Comeback Kid – Colourpop
Birkin – ABH
MIDDLE ROW L-R:
Sorbet – Makeup Geek
Come and get it – Colourpop
Labyrinth – Colourpop
BOTTOM ROW L-R:
Lay low – Colourpop
Cut offs – Colourpop
Wait for it – Colourpop
Sorbet by MUG has been discontinued, I’ve searched high and low and the most similar I can find in my collection is “say I do” by Colourpop. I also think that “fairytale” by Sydney Grace looks similar, but a bit more muted.
MY PERFECT PEACHY PURPLE PALETTE
Now onto the final palette for today; my perfect peachy purple palette. In this palette, I kept quite a few of the shades the same as above, but made a few changes to add in pops of purple.
I have green eyes and purple always brings out the colour of them, but as a teenager I used to only wear purple eyeshadow which was applied shockingly badly, so for a while I was scarred and not interested in purples!
Recently, I’ve been dipping my toe back into purple eyeshadow… probably because cool tones are becoming more popular again and I wanted to add a row of purple to switch things up with the peaches and pinks of the palette above.
This palette includes:
TOP ROW L-R:
Soft peach – ABH
Comeback kid – Colourpop
Birkin – ABH
MIDDLE ROW L-R:
Lay low – Colourpop
Come and get it – Colourpop
Labyrinth – Colourpop
BOTTOM ROW L-R:
Chic happens – Colourpop
Burner – Colourpop
Sleeper – Colourpop
