Today, I’m bringing you a review of some artisan loose leaf teas from Adagio.
As it’s almost Christmas and I know how difficult it is to find presents, I want to bring you lots of different ideas for what you could get your friends and family and some of these teas would make a lovely gift!
I was first contacted a few weeks ago and I jumped at the chance to try something different as we are big tea lovers in this house!
I let them choose which ones to send me as there was too much choice! However, I did want to try a variety of types; black, green, flavoured etc. and I was not disappointed when my teas arrived!
The teas I received were: Blood Orange, Earl Grey Bravo, Matcha, Citron Green, Christmas, Yunnan Jig, Formosa Bai Hao and Masala Chai.
For the purposes of this tea review, I am going to feature the Christmas, Earl Grey, Citron Green and Blood Orange. I also sifted my teas for the photos to make sure they were clear, when you brew your tea you can leave the loose tea in the cup.
So, let’s start with the Christmas, since it’s only a week away!
It’s made up of black tea, assam, cinnamon, chai, cardamom and cloves and honestly it smells AMAZING!
If you weren’t feeling festive, you totally will be once you get a hit of this tea! You get a strong floral and clove scent and once brewed it becomes this gorgeous golden colour.
I couldn’t personally taste the cardamom, but the cinnamon and cloves shine through and this really is “Christmas in a cup” – it’s strong and spicy and tastes slightly floral and citrus-sy. I loved this tea (as I’m writing this I have a mug by me!)

Next up is the Blood Orange. Just look at the colour – this tea is SO pretty!
I love fruit tea, but am often left disappointed by teabags I get in the supermarket – the tea always smells amazing, but when brewed I find it doesn’t taste of much. However, this tea tasted exactly like it should!
It’s a blend of orange peels, rose hips, hibiscus and natural orange flavours. As soon as you open the bag you get a big hit of orange and it smells so good!
Taste wise: this is so refreshing, it’s not overly sweet – obviously you could add your own sweetness, but I didn’t need to. It didn’t taste artificial at all and there was no bitter after taste like you may imagine with orange.
Out of the teas I tasted, this was definitely my favourite and I will be ordering more!

This lightly coloured tea is the Citron Green. Normally I’m not a green tea lover, but this changed my mind!
It smells strongly of lemon and you also get some earthy notes. This tea is made up of green tea, orange peels, orange flavour, lemon and sunflower petals.
Once brewed this tea is mild and has a slight lemon taste – not bitter or muddy which I sometimes find with green teas. It’s really refreshing and is the perfect afternoon tea! I have actually found a green tea I like, so thank you Adagio!

Finally is the Earl Grey Bravo.
This is a traditional black tea, but with a slight citrus-sy twist. I’ve had Earl Grey before, but not loose leaf. This blend also has blue cornflowers in it, which are pretty to look at and add a wonderful floral scent to the tea.
This tea smells good enough to wear as perfume!! The flavour is mellow and traditional, but you just get the smallest citrus taste, which is a nice change from what I’ve had before. It does get a little bitter if you brew it too long, but when brewed correctly, it’s really delicious.
I’m normally an English Breakfast girl, but probably because I hadn’t tried a “good” Earl Grey – now I can really appreciate the flavour and this may have become one of my favourites!

Overall, I’m really impressed with these teas from Adagio. They have a huge range of teas and you are bound to find one you like. They sell samples of their teas so you can try them before committing to buying a bigger size.
They also have many gift sets which come with a variety of teas for those of us who find it hard to make decisions or want to give a unique gift! I’m already eyeing up this Holiday Cheer one – gingerbread, candy cane and pumpkin spice tea!?!?! I need to try those!
As for the other tea samples I received, I’m going to experiment with them in the New Year in my baking as I’ve wanted to bake with tea for ages, but never got round to it. Keep your eyes peeled for something with matcha or earl grey!
