Happy Halloween!

31.10.13 By Annie N

Happy Halloween Hey everyone! Wishing you a very happy Halloween! I’ll be report writing, but I hope everyone else takes full advantage of all of that candy! As always, it’s been crazy here, so sorry for the lack of recipes. I honestly haven’t baked in almost a month. It’s killing me. ๐Ÿ™ I just want Uni to be over, I hate it. Anyway, every year my parents have pumpkins on their kitchen windowsill and even though I’ve moved out I still get a pumpkin each year to carve and this year my OH got one too ๐Ÿ™‚ Last year I did Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty… I used the dremel and ended up with more pumpkin on me than anywhere else. It was even in my eyes! This year, I went back to carving by hand! I decided to do Jack Skellington this year! Here’s my pumpkin: jackskellington I’m pretty darn impressed!! Here’s my Mum’s – she did the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz! scarecrowpumpkin And my OH did Homer Simpson (this is the first pumpkin he’s ever done!! :O I couldn’t believe it, he definitely enjoyed getting in on our tradition though!) homerpumpkin In other news… we had a storm here the other day. Now usually I’m like “Dang it, why can’t this country cope?!” and I was still kind of like that on Monday morning at 6:30 when I woke up and couldn’t hear anything. I’d woken up in the night and not heard any severe wind either when they’d all been going on about 90mph gusts etc. Then our neighbour knocked on our door at 7:00am and my view on the storm changed… Their tree fell across the driveway onto OH’s car. fallentree We were sooooooo lucky! Only the top touched the car and we can’t see any damage! Although the car is white… and very dirty so maybe we’ll spot something when we clean it… It was a bit manic, Uni was half closed as the power was out – a tree had fallen on a power line or something. I wasn’t due in Monday, but I popped out for a bit and then came home to loads of messages from my friend asking if she could borrow our power as she lives on campus and there was none!! We managed to find a friend to come with his chainsaw and cut the tree down and it became a huge team effort with me, OH, next door, our friend and my friend all clearing up the tree and then sweeping the drive! Side note: I’m definitely my father’s daughter. The men were faffing around with gloves and having coffee breaks – I just got my hands right in and got on with it! I quite enjoyed it given the circumstances! ๐Ÿ˜€ I did feel my back twinge when I was sweeping and probably should have stopped, but I’m stubborn and now I’ve been unable to move since Tuesday morning as I think I’ve managed to pull every muscle in my back…. whoops. You’d never know (apart from the small pile of logs): photo 5 Anyways, have a great time trick or treating! I really hope I can get in the kitchen again on Friday, I think my head might explode if I don’t get to bake for another month…
