Ever say something then wish you hadn’t?
Yeah, me too.
On Monday I was talking to a friend and we were talking about cars. Her Mum used to have a Renault Clio like me and we were saying how good they are and then I said those fateful words “I’ve not really had any problems with mine”.
BOOM. My car heard me, I just know he was saying “hahahaha, I’ll show her. Saying there’s never been anything wrong with me”
On the way home, I was listening to a CD and then all of a sudden the screen flashed up with “too hot” and turned the CD player off. New one on me, that’s never happened before. Well nothing else happened so I continued my journey.
As I said last week I was pretty much a hermit and I didn’t go out until Friday. Car was fine on the way to the shops. However, when I turned my car back on and put it in reverse, it was revving loads before moving. I was like “Hang on a second, I am not doing that, I can drive I swear!” It was such a paper bag over head moment, I could feel people staring at me and probably screaming “Lift your foot up off the clutch you stupid woman!”
So after that embarrassment I realised there were 2 warning lights on my dash so then I had to dig around my car searching for the service book to find out what the lights meant. I know I should keep the service book in the glove box, but CD’s are obviously far more important, so they get priority.
I figured out they were the Exhaust gas monitor light and the electronic fault light. About a year ago I had the exhaust gas monitor light come on and it was just a small sensor which needed replacing, didn’t cost much, hence why I said to my friend, I’ve never really had any problems with my car.
It was such a horrible journey home, I was so glad I was on my own though because every time I changed gear the car would lurch and sometimes when I was accelerating it would randomly lose power and if I had had someone with me they would obviously have thought I couldn’t drive, which is just embarrassing.
Never had the lurching before either which makes me think it’s something more serious, although I read online it could be nothing and the car thought it picked up a fault so put the light on and entered a “limp mode” not allowing me to go above 3000rpm. Hopefully it will be a quick, easy fix. I’m feeling pretty happy that I’m so sensible with my money though as I know some people would be panicking, but I know that I’ve got enough to pay for the repairs. Thank my parents for that, I may live a boring life, but at least I can sleep easy knowing I don’t owe loads of money to loads of people 🙂
Moral of the story – never say that you haven’t had problems with your car, or if you do, touch wood, I didn’t on Monday and I swear he was listening in…
Before Christmas I was talking about making truffles and Fudge. I already posted the Espresso Truffles, so now it’s time to post my dark chocolate cocoa truffles. I don’t really like dark chocolate so these weren’t entirely my thing, but I know loads of people who do and they loved these truffles 🙂
Makes 40-50 (I got 40)
Recipe from BBC Good Food
Ingredients:
> 280g good quality dark chocolate (I used Green & Blacks)
> 284ml double cream
> 50g unsalted butter
> Around 1/4 cup cocoa powder to coat the truffles (you may need more)
Method:
> Break the chocolate up into a heatproof bowl.
> Place the cream and butter into a small saucepan and heat until simmering. Do not bring to a full boil.
> Once the cream is hot, take off the heat and pour over the chocolate.
> Stir, stir, stir until you have a gloriously smooth ganache.
> Place a piece of clingfilm over the ganache, making sure you stick it right in touching the ganache to stop a skin forming.
> Leave to cool for an hour and then place in the fridge for a further 3 hours until cold and firm.
> Line a baking sheet and place the cocoa into a small bowl.
> Get a teaspoon of ganache and then roll it in your hands until round to form your truffles.
> Place the truffle into the cocoa and roll to coat, then place the finished truffle onto your baking tray. Repeat until all the ganache is gone.
> I placed my truffles in little confectionery bags and then into gift jars, but you could put them in gift boxes or anything you like. Truffles will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Enjoy 🙂
