Not such a domestic goddess this week….

20.6.12 By Annie N

I like to pride myself on keeping the house fairly clean. I’m very particular about the kitchen and often can’t go to bed unless I’ve tidied and cleaned it.

I am always on top of the washing, change the bed once a week, hoover when my back allows me and do a general tidy up because it seems my boyfriend is incapable of putting things away most of the time. He somehow thinks his socks are going to walk themselves from the lounge to the washing machine…

My rule is if it’s in the laundry basket, I’ll wash it, if it’s not I won’t. I think this is a fairly simple rule and I don’t have a problem with it. Especially as the laundry baskets are at the end of the bed.

I have sometimes left my boyfriend’s socks for a few days so he ends up with a pile, then he asks where his socks are and I tell him that they are where he’s left them…

Am I the only one? Do other people seem to spend their entire lives tidying up after their other halves? I don’t mind most of the time, I enjoy looking after him and doing his washing and cleaning the house, but sometimes I could have spent all day cleaning and then as soon as my boyfriend gets home he dumps a pile of post on the coffee table. I bite my tongue for a while, then it irritates me and I mention it.

However, this week, although I’ve still been doing the kitchen and the washing, I haven’t tidied the lounge, I’ve just been too tired and feeling under the weather so I haven’t been as hot on stuff as I usually would be and the fact we are in the middle of decorating hasn’t helped. We have things randomly strewn about the house, no space in the shed until we find time to sort it out, so we have our bulk buys from Costco on the dining room table. I can’t stand it, it really bugs me, it’s like my mind is cluttered because the house is. A lot of the stuff we just have nowhere for at the moment so it just has to stay and be moved from one end of the table to the other if we need space, I feel for our poor dog, it’s a bit of a slalom for her on the floor, tins of paint, cardboard boxes…

Well, my parents are coming over on Saturday, so we simply have to tidy the house unless we want my parents to be sitting on a tin of paint and some coat hangers. I’m looking forward to it because a clean house, for me at least = a clean mind 🙂
